Margaret Elizabeth Cureton Smith, daughter of the late Belle Wilson Cureton and John Moon Cureton, passed away April 19, 2026. Margaret was married to the late Jerry Donald Smith for nearly 52 years. She was a Registered Nurse, loved singing in the church choir, and while she was technically a Presbyterian, she was devoted to the Holly Hill United Methodist Church where she loved to cook chicken for their Meals on Wheels program and attended their Ladies Circle. After she and Jerry retired, they moved to Maryland to be closer to family. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Katherine Kobza and her husband John of Clive, Iowa, and Allison Dennis and her husband Steve of Columbia, Maryland. She adored her four granddaughters Kate Kobza, Christine Woody and her husband Robert, Elizabeth Tanaka and her husband Shugo, and Anna Dennis. She thought the world turned and the stars lit around her great granddaughter Sophia Tanaka. She was the dear sister of the late John Cureton, Jr.
Family will receive friends from 11:30AM to 12PM, Friday, April 24 at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Charlestown Retirement Community, followed by a funeral service at 12PM. Interment in Crownsville Veteran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Gilchrist Hospice or to Holly Hill United Methodist Church, 1048 Peake Street, Holly Hill, SC 29059.
