Affectionately known as Vee or Aunt Dee, she had a profound impact on the lives of everyone who knew her.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Ronald Patrick Melvin.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen, son-in-law, Jeremy Schon, and granddaughters, Lily and Eden.
She was adored by her siblings, Rosemarie Hunt, Noreen (George) Bennett, JoAnne (Jim (d))Elliott, Carole (Scott) Miller, Jerry (Carole) Apicella, and Toni (David) Donavan.
She was welcomed into the Melvin Family in 1973 when she married Ron, becoming a beloved sister in law to Joe (Cathy) Melvin, Roger Melvin, Keith (Wanda) Melvin, Carol Lee Melvin (d), Lee Melvin (D), and daughter-in-law to his parents Lee & Genevieve Melvin (d).
She is survived by countless cousins, treasured godchildren, nieces and nephews, cherished circle of lifetime friends (Ann, Bridget, Charlene, Eleanor, Jane, Sheila, Lori, and Valerie), respected real estate colleagues, from her 50 years of her combined service with Caton Realty and Remax, and her companion, Salvatore Milio, and his family Kristen (Justin) Nelms and Merideth (Dan) Nagle who will miss her dearly.
In her professional career as a realtor, she helped countless friends, family members, and clients through major life transitions. She did so much more than put a roof over their heads; she gave them hope and new beginnings. “A house is made of walls and beams; a home is built of love and dreams.” No one knew that and lived that more than Vera did.
In retirement, Vera thrived in her role as a grandmother to Lily and Eden. She adored her girls and would do absolutely anything for them. Her legacy lives through their big personalities, laughter, and the memories and experiences they shared with her.
Vera was the ultimate host–home served as the preferred venue for family weddings, birthday celebrations, May Processions, and holiday feasts. Summers were spent by her pool with family, and Winters by the fireplace with the aroma of her baking in the air. It was a sanctuary surrounded by her beautiful gardens and filled with love, laughter, food, and cherished memories.
She lived an incredibly meaningful life and always made time to help others. Those who knew Vera will remember her by her thoughtfulness, ambition, energy, and love for her family. She made everyone she talked to feel important, valued, and special.
May her memory be a blessing as we carry forth her legacy of hard work, love, and compassion in all that we do.
