William Buck was raised on a farm in Tennessee. He came to Baltimore after the attack on Pearl Harbor to work in the Glenn L. Martin airplane factory, then served in the Navy during World War II. After graduating from college, he worked as a statistician for the Social Security Administration, worked on the Aid to Families with Dependent Children program, and was chief of the Quality Control Branch. He served as a sunday school teacher and deacon, was an avid camper, and was an active member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Buck, one son, two grandsons, one brother, and several nieces and nephews.
