
Barbara Jean Chick – 76 years old, was born July 30, 1939 in Virginia. She was the second of six children born to William Drew Chick Jr. and Leah Bernice Jones Chick. Their first child died in infancy. Barbara was born at home just inside the North Entrance to Shenandoah National Park where her father, was a park ranger.
As a young child Barbara had musical interests. She learned to play the flute in the first, second, and third grade. Also in the 3rd grade she started taking piano, and then took violin lessons from the 4th grade on. She played violin in both Jr. and Sr. High School orchestras. She was in the High School orchestra as first chair (concert mistress all three years) and also a violin soloist for many school programs.
She went to college at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Art. Barbara worked for the Daughters of the American Revolution as a genealogist, and also taught genealogy at Mount Vernon College, both in Washington, D.C.
Barbara was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many church callings including working with young women.
She worked as a secretary at Rocky Mountain Energy, and she also taught genealogical research classes at Foothills Recreation Center.
In addition to musical talents, Barbara also was accomplished in sewing, knitting, singing, painting, gardening, refinishing furniture, and doing genealogical research.
She enjoyed family gatherings. She loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed their accomplishments.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents William Drew Chick Jr., Leah Bernice Jones. Her brothers William Drew Chick III and Gerald Bryce Chick.
She is survived by her sister Judy Risley, Sonny Risley (brother in law), Ronald Chick, Sue Chick (sister in law), Brent Chick and sister in law Katie Chick (Bryce's spouse). She is also survived by fourteen nieces and nephews.
