Carl D. Perkins Jr., was born on February 22, 1941 in Alice, Texas, to loving parents, Carl D. Perkins Sr. and Berenice Marie Faler. The family moved to the little town of Needles, Ca. when Carl was three years old after his dad got a job working for the railroad. Carl grew up in Needles along with his younger sister, Judy, and lived most of his life there. He attended primary school and high school in Needles where he participated in several after school activities including baseball and football. He was musically inclined and learned to play the piano beautifully as a boy, entertaining family and friends with his talent. After graduating from Needles High School, Carl spent time traveling around the United States by train with a friend before going on to further his education at Westmont Christian College in Santa Barbara, Ca.
Later, he joined the US Navy where he served for four years as an electronics communications specialist and also taught night school to his peers. He scored second highest in his class on his aptitude test and was asked to join the nuclear physics program. In the end he decided against it since it required an extra two years of service. He was honorably discharged and returned again to his hometown of Needles, Ca.
In 1967 Carl married Katherine Pottmeyer and they had two daughters, Karyn and Krystal. They divorced in 1982. Carl worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years. He had a sharp, inquisitive mind and an unquenchable desire for knowledge and to understand as much as he could about the world. He had many interests and often enjoyed long, intellectual and spiritual conversations over coffee with family and friends. He loved his family and it was very important to him that his children learn about the Lord and to walk in His ways. His close family and friends loved him immensely. He was a unique and wonderful human being and will be held near to our hearts forever.
