Cynthia May Blanchard joined her beloved husband, Don, her parents, Cyrus and Juanita, and her sisters, Suzanne, Mary Louise and Nancy, on May 23, 2015. Born on Washington's Birthday, 1927, she shared time between Denver and Sedalia most of her life, equally comfortable at a symphony concert or making jelly in a country cabin. She graduated from East High, Denver, and studied at The Caseman's College in Florida and CU, Boulder, before wedding in 1946 and joining her husband, Don, in New Haven, Connecticut.
A devoted mother, Cynthia raised two boys, James and Robert, and four grandsons, Matthew, Peter, Jeffrey and Marcus. Always joking that Blanchard’s don't have girls, she adored daughter's-in-law Debbie and Lynda, nieces, Nancy, Claudia and Connie, and her cousin Ruthie. But her cabin was the boy's club house where besides her boys, her nephews, Fred, Mike, Tom, Mike and Steve were always welcome, along with their snakes, frogs, fish and bugs.
Her engaging smile and infectious laugh welcomed everyone and maintained life-long friendships with too many people to possibly name but Ginny, Blythe, Peggy, Mitzy, Joanne, Betty Lou, Margie, Joan and Betty are just a few she hosted with grace and warmth for bridge club, book club and poker club. Cynthia was a tireless volunteer for Scio, Tri-Hi, PEO and the Needlework Guild at one time or another chairperson of all of them.
She loved swimming and mountain walks with her sisters and enjoyed skiing and golf with her husband and boys. A musician, during the war years she played the bass briefly with the Denver Symphony, and she was an avid reader and a master of puzzles, games, rhymes and riddles. “I see, said the blind man to his deaf son, when he picked up his hammer and saw.”
To our dearest mother we offer this poem:
Mother
Warm as a summer breeze when holding us.
Firm as the autumn frost when scolding us.
Gentle as winter snowflakes falling.
Loving as spring lilacs blooming.
Always the one supporting us.
Forever thoughtfully guiding us.
Everyday we cherish the warm feeling
Of a mother's touch so healing.
Is there any way we can thank you
Enough to show how much we love you.
No words can ever capture the feeling
Of sons' love so enduring.
The family would like to thank her many friends and staff at the Brookdale Lakewood Meridian for their friendship and care of both Cynthia and Don. A memorial service will be held June 20, 2015 at 11:00AM at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 So Colorado Blvd, Centennial CO 80121, reception to follow.
