David Henry Moore, born October 9, 1936, in Cranbrook, B.C. (Canada), passed away June 13, 2015, aged 78, in Denver at Saint Joseph Hospital, due to complications of diabetes. Devoted son of Berta (Katharine Alberta Cameron) and Henry Headley Moore. Predeceased by wife Linda Joan (né Crutchfield) with whom he spent many happy years in Colorado. Father to Elizabeth (Bob Kirke) of Ottawa and Douglas of Vancouver and loving and proud grandfather of Emma and Margaret. Brother to the late Beverley Anne (the late Norbert Sasges), Cameron (Edythe), Valerie (the late Tom Farrer), and Barry (all of Canada); brother-in-law to Ron Crutchfield (Anne Randolph) of Denver; and fond uncle of several nieces and nephews. His gentle spirit, wise counsel, and sense of humour will be missed by his extended Canadian family and the many friends he made wherever he lived.
David’s formative years were spent in the Columbia Valley. He studied forestry at the University of Idaho but spent much of his career in the area of land development. His early career included work with the family business Edgewater Sawmills, Crown Zellerbach in Vancouver and Calgary, and the Eddy Group and Roco Group in New Brunswick. He was proud of his contribution to Crown Zellerbach's Hometown stores, and to several Denver projects, including the Aurora CentreTech Business Park (Dueck Group of Companies), and those pursued while at the City of Aurora and Galloway, Romero & Associates. He was a private airplane pilot like his father and pursued his love of sailing when he could. He enjoyed building models and woodworking, collected far more books than he could read, and believed that history should not be forgotten. He treasured his friendships, a good meal, and beautiful music. His final years were brightened by conversations with his newest friends at Wind Crest in Highlands Ranch. Our thanks to Shawn Harberg and Cassie Jazmine-Newcomb for their dedicated assistance that enabled him to continue to live independently despite the health challenges of recent years. Though his career took him at times far away from his Columbia Valley birthplace, part of his heart always remained there and he returned many times to visit.
A memorial service will take place at Wind Crest, 3235 Mill Vista Road, Highlands Ranch on September 1, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Fireside Lounge. Please visit the online guestbook posted by Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary (Centennial, Colorado) to share your memories.
