

Ed was born in Berthoud, CO on May 25, 1921 to Clarence Zelmer Hughes and Olive Annetta (Keirnes) Hughes. Ed graduated from high school in California, while participating in the Civilian Conservation Corps, a New Deal government program for young people. This helped families cope with unemployment following the Great Depression. He married Virginia Lea Lowry on June 21, 1941, and they lived in Southern California before relocating to Lakewood, Colorado in 1969.
Ed worked for an oil well service company for 32 years, beginning as a truck driver and eventually retiring at 55 as the regional manager for the Rocky Mountain region. Ed and Virginia loved traveling and visited all 50 states as well as 16 foreign countries. Ed was an active participant at Our Savior’s Church.
One of nine children, Ed outlived all of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 71 years and his three children: Sharon (Bill) Wells, Kathie Hughes and Wes (Marcia) Hughes. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Friday, May 10 at Our Savior’s Church located at 1975 S. Garrison St., at the corner of Garrison and Jewell.
