Ernie was born in Atlanta, GA to Linda and Paul Ackerly on January 8th, 1975. He grew up with his close friend Tony Gomez and enjoyed an active life with friends and family in both Casper, WY and Denver, CO. As an active member of the community, Ernie participated in numerous hockey teams and coached youth hockey as well; he was a mentor to many and the driving force to the success of those teams. Growing up with a voracious curiosity, he quickly learned carpentry skills from his father, coupled with the people skills nurtured by his mother, Ernie developed a very rewarding and successful career, during which he earned his General Contractor’s License. Ernie had a passion for all things outdoors, but a special place was held for boating with his sons, wife, and daughter.
Ernie made an impact on all he met and meant something a little different to everyone. With an energy and confidence that could not be held back, he often appeared larger than life with his robust laugh and jovial nature. Beneath his rough exterior, Ernie’s caring nature and genuine heart radiated like a light. He moved forward in life without sweating the small stuff and carried his friends and family with him.
Ernie is survived by his sons Darren, Dillon, Tyler, and Colton, his daughter Trinity, and his wife Shelly, the love of his life. Additionally survived by his father Paul, sister Elaine, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as a wealth of friends.
His presence in our lives will be irreplaceable and his loss will be felt deeply by many.
In his famous words “I’d go for it…”
