Fred Charles Minister was born to Charles and Rose (Popp) Minister on April 3, 1944 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When Fred was a young boy, the family moved away from New Mexico and settled in Denver, Colorado, where Fred graduated from Bishop Machebeuf High School. Fred was enlisted into the United States Navy on October 11, 1965, actively serving as an aviation technician at the Naval Air Station in Glynco, Georgia. During his time stationed here, Fred was introduced to the love of his life, Kathleen Wessing, while visiting New York with her cousin. The two were married on April 10, 1970 in New Hartford, New York. Shortly after the wedding, the two moved to Denver, where they built a life of love, laughter and family. Fred had an amazing heart, a light sense of humor and the ability to make even the most tense moments seem easy. He enjoyed working on model cars, sitting on the porch with Kathy, attending sporting events for his children and grandchildren and traveling the country in his 2007 Nissan 350Z. This car brought Fred much joy and many friends through the Z Car Club of Colorado and the Nissan Z Cars of Colorado.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 50 years, Kathy; his children, Kevin Minister and Keri (Eric) Meeks; his grandchildren, Dustin and Lindsey Meeks and Tegan Minister; his mother-in-law, Gloria Wessing; his best friend of 72 years, Jay Smith; and many other friends and extended family members.
A Memorial Service for Fred will be held on Friday, February 5, 2020 at 2pm at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary. Military honors and a graveside service will take place at 3pm at Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery, with a reception for guests to follow. Guests are asked to wear blue and to bring their favorite car to commemorate Fred.
Fred was devoted to making contributions to The Wounded Warrior Project, The Denver Rescue, and The Dumb Friends League. The family asks that donations be made to one of these charities in Fred's honor.
