Helen Louise (Hurd) Hastings passed away on May 3, 2017 in Frisco, Texas at the age of 89. Born on June 30, 1927 in Independence, Kansas to Benjamin and Hazel Hurd, she lived there until she married Lawrence Hastings in 1947. In 1960, they moved to Denver, Colorado with their 3 daughters. In 1979, Lawrence passed away and Helen continued to work and live in the Denver area until 2005. At that time she moved to Georgia to be near her daughter Carole. Then in 2012 she moved to Texas to be near her daughter Kathy.
She was always an excellent cook, home decorator, and seamstress. She discovered she had artistic talent and spent time painting, flower arranging, and doing needlework. She enjoyed the women’s groups that she belonged to over the years including a couple of book clubs. Gardening was always a part of her life that was passed down from her mother. She loved the mountains of Colorado and wanted to come back whenever she could.
Helen is survived by three daughters, Dana (Rich) Barclay, Kathy (Glenn E. “Gene” d.2009) Stone, and Carole (Steve) Fessler, and their families, including her four grandchildren, Jason (Jill) Stone, Mindy Stone (Jonathan) Summers, Brian Fessler and Michael Fessler; as well as five great grandchildren, Lauren, Nathan and Adam Stone, and Alexa and Addison Summers.
