Irma Vesta (Major) Polsley died May 14, 2015 at the age of ninety-nine at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Loveland, CO. She was born September 22, 1915 on a farm northwest of Kingfisher, OK. She was the eighth of ten children born to Henry Louis and Sylvia Bell Walker Major.
She attended a one-room country school through eighth grade and graduated from Omega High School in Omega, OK in 1933. She received a scholarship to attend Draughon Practical Business College in Oklahoma City and graduated in 1934.
Irma married Harold Henry Polsley on April 25, 1935 at Kingfisher, OK. They had two children, Kenneth Alan Polsley of Johnstown, CO and Janis Elaine (Polsley) Van Hee of Grand Junction, CO. They had five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She worked a variety of jobs including a civil service appointment as a payroll clerk, clerking, book keeping, timekeeper at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS, and in classified advertising for the Casper Tribune in Casper, WY. She worked for Montgomery Ward in Denver for 26 years, first as a record clerk and then as an office manager. She and Harold owned and operated a Swensen's Ice Parlor in Southeast Denver for five years.
She moved to Loveland, CO in 2004 and resided briefly at the Wexford and then at The Hillcrest until October when her health caused her to cease living independently.
She was preceded in death by her husband in February 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings and their spouses and a nephew.
Irma is survived by her son and wife, Kenneth and Georgia Polsley of Johnstown, CO and daughter and husband Janis and Ronald Van Hee of Grand Junction, CO. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kimberly (Van Hee) Wallace and husband Bryan of Grand Junction; Timothy Van Hee and wife Tina of Denver; Melinda Landeck and husband Gary of Atchison, KS, David Polsley and wife Chelsea of Garden Grove, CA; DebiSue Polsley and fiance Dan Merritt of Loveland, CO, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service 11:00am Thursday At Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary with visitation starting at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to charity of donors choice.
