Born and raised in Denver, Joan graduated from South High School, then attended Colorado State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts in 1977.
Joan was well known for her Appel-family bright blue eyes and infectious smile that could light up a room. She was an avid gardener and interior designer, always having a project underway. Joan had an unquenchable passion for travel, from the Rhine River, France, Iceland, England, Italy, Greece, Mexico and Santa Fe. Every beach was her friend, from Delaware’s beaches to Playa del Carmen, Mexico to Elounda, Crete.
In addition to her talents in gardening and design, Joan was an accomplished business professional, working 19 years as the Operations Manager of Denver-based Dependable Cleaners.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Barry and Joan Appel and brother Timothy. Survivors include Jim, her best friend and husband for 38 years, daughters Dru and Jordan, and grandchildren Emery and Turner, all of Centennial. Other immediate family survivors include her sisters Patricia (Barry) of Newark, DE and Priscilla (Hedgecock) of Boulder, MT. She is also survived by numerous cousins, in-laws and nieces and nephews.
A rosary service for the family will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 5:30 PM at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121.
Family and Friends will be invited to join in a large Celebration of Joan's Life at a later date.
