Jose was born in La Junta, Colorado to Jose Reynaldo and Estella Sisneros. He was raised in Pueblo, Colorado. Jose is one of six children. His siblings are Dolores Spradlin, Mesa, AZ, Bobby Sisneros (Cecelia), Phoenix, AZ, Toni Sisneros (Bob Valdez), Keizer, OR, Cathy Sisneros Chung (Steve Chung), San Francisco, CA, Darlene Sisneros (Emilio Lobato) deceased.
Jose has two sons; Gabe Sisneros (Mona) Centennial, CO and Nick Paris-Sisneros, Boulder, CO, two grandchildren; Gabriel and Katarina Sisneros, Centennial, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jose achieved a high level of education and devoted his life in teaching others. He received his PhD in 2000 from the University of Denver after working in community mental health for 24 years in various positions. His last full time position before academia was Clinical Director at Services de La Raza located in northwest Denver.

Lead Author for the text book “Critical Multicultural Social Work” which was published in 2008. The book has been appropriated by nineteen universities.
He authored a number of articles during his academic career that ranged from teaching social work to the history and impact of Latino people. Next to his family the students he influenced and impacted provided him with a sense of pride and joy.
