

Margaret “Peggy” Harrison, age 86, of Greenwood Village, CO, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. She was born on July 2, 1930 in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Regina (Garrison) and Andrew Olson MD. She will be remembered for her warm heart and love of family and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband; Charles S. Harrison, MD. Survivors include her sister Barbara Kaufman of Wichita, KS; children, Sam (Elizabeth) Harrison, Margaret (Garry) Danuser and Andrew (Andrea) Harrison; 7 grandchildren, Monica Martinez, Sam Harrison, Drew Danuser, Will Danuser, Ben Danuser, Nate Harrison, and Charlie Harrison; and 1 great grandchild, Trey Pryor. Her family and many friends were her true delight and she always welcomed extras around her holiday table or when someone needed a bed for a few nights stay.
Peggy grew up in Wichita, KS in a tightknit and loving family graduating from East High School. She was an avid horsewoman and rode American Saddlebreds in competitions throughout the Midwest. Peggy joined Pi Beta Phi while attending the University of Kansas, instilling lifelong friendships and her love for the Jayhawks- especially KU basketball which she religiously followed later in life.
Peggy taught school for a while in Wichita before moving to Denver, CO in 1956 where she briefly worked for an oil and gas company. She married Charles S. Harrison MD in 1957 and settled into being a surgeon’s wife and raising a young family. Peggy was active in the Junior League of Denver’s children’s theater program and was a bridge club member for almost 50 years. Peggy and Chuck were enthusiastic travelers and counted trips to Africa, China and southeast Asia, among their favorite adventures. They were members of Pinehurst Country Club as well as the Carousel Dance Club for many years. Their swing moves on the dance floor were a joy to watch!
Peggy’s life took a dramatic shift in 1974 when she embarked on a career in the electrical contracting field. She became President and owner of Pride Electric Co., overseeing the company’s growth from a few employees to hundreds during her tenure. She was a proud board member of local chapters of the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) association and National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). Peggy received many honors and awards for pioneering her role into the construction field epitomized by NAWBO’s Jean Yancey Business Woman of the Year Award in 1999 and IEC’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. Peggy retired from Pride Electric in 2000 so she and Chuck could spend more time together which they enjoyed until his death in 2007.
Despite all of Peggy’s work and achievement, most will remember her for always having a friendly smile and welcoming manner. She loved with all her heart and taught others to be as open and gracious by example. Peggy will be missed dearly by her family and many friends.
A Celebration of Peggy’s Life will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, June 26, 2017 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm-4:00 pm, Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
