Mildred "Mickey" Smith

Visitation will be held Friday, January 18, 2013 at 9 AM, with services at 10 AM. Both will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial, CO 80121.

Mickey was born February 6, 1925 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska to Richard Lloyd and Mary Vivian Carnes. Her early childhood years were spent in Denver, Missouri , with the family moving to Simla, Colorado around 1937 where she lived until moving to Denver, Colorado in 1956. The family lived for 54 years on South Beach Court. Mickey is survived by her husband Hyland Smith Jr. whom she met in high school, and married in 1944 after only one date. They were married for 68 years and had four children – Marilyn Miller (John), Donald Smith (Nancy), Carolynn Hildebrant (Brian) and Pamela Pearce (Doug). Mickey had 9 grandchildren, Jennifer Channel, Rick Channel, Johnny Miller, Chris Miller, Zach Smith, Lindsey Smith, Stacey Wilson, Heather Owens and Joshua Pearce, 7 great-grandchildren: Alyssia Channel, Hyland Wilson, Morgaine Wilson, Taylor Owens, Ashlynn Owens, Jon-Jon Miller, and Julia Miller and 1 great-great grandson, Tailor Channel. She is also survived by her sister Sharon Classen and brother Larry Reeves.

Mickey was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brothers, Bob and Don Carnes .

Mickey’s greatest joy was spending time entertaining her family and friends with her fantastic cooking. She was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, babysitter and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The family suggests donations to St. John’s Hospice, Lakewood, Colorado.
