

She was born in Hiawatha Kansas on August 17, 1934, the oldest of six children of Roy and Bea Grove.
In 1948 she started high school at the all girls Benedictine academy, Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison KS, later attending nursing school at St. Mary's in Kansas City.
After working as a surgical nurse she married Herbert H. Barkow in Atchison KS and settled in Kansas City. After raising her six children Nancy went back to work as a school nurse. For the past 20 years she taught an arthritis water class at the Schlessman YMCA and in her last four years studied the bible. She was an accomplished seamstress, weaver and bridge player who loved the arts.
Nancy is survived by her devoted husband, Herb Barkow, her children;
Frank, John, Philip, David, Ann, Amy
six grandchildren and countless family and friends who adored her. We will miss you always.
A mass and celebration of Nancy’s life is scheduled for Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 8035 South Quebec St. Centennial 303-770-1155. The rosary will begin at 11am with a service and reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, at Nancy's request, a memorial fund in her name for Pulmonary Programs and Research has been established.
