Richard Strobel, a Colorado native, dedicated plumber, and friend to so many, passed away March 2, 2025, at the age of 71. Wrestling and football during his school years in Englewood, Colorado, shaped his love and competitiveness for sports. He continued wrestling at Colorado Northwestern Community College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business and met his wife of 46 years, Vickye. Three sons were born and raised in the years after, Bobby, Jonny and Chris.
Richard spent endless hours working for his father’s business to support his young family until he opened his own business in 1987. Richard and his family assisted his mother and father in taking care of the family mountain home by Grand Lake they built in 1977. All the family came to enjoy the love of snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, boating, hiking and everything outdoors. He would laugh at friends having difficulty catching fish and say, “I’ll show you how to fish”. He could sniff out a “honey hole” and always had just the right bait to put a sneer on the face of the unlucky fishing competitors within minutes.
So many wonderful memories and good times will keep him close to his wife, sons, grandchildren, friends, many loyal customers and those who knew him. He is dearly missed every day. His sons carry on his legacy of plumbing and the love of the outdoors. Plans are to fix up his 1973 Ford Torino to drive in Golden’s oldies parade some day in his honor.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held later this year. Details will be shared when available.
