It's August 2013. I just found this obituary and my heart is breaking. Shawn and I became friends online about four or five years ago. I was drawn to him immediately; he always had a kind word and a smile to share. We made each other feel better when one of us was down. When I decided to go back to school, he was a great inspiration to me. We planned on meeting one day... I love this man more than he will ever know. Run with the angels, dear Shawn. I carry you in my heart always.

Its April..2013, and I have been looking up old boyfriends...and I found Shawn.  My heart is breaking.  In 1977 I was attending Metro State College in a creative writing class when I had met Shawn.  I was married at that time to Jon Kucharski but had kept my last name...Robin Whittaker.  I will never forget that sweet guy with the long red blond hair in the wheel chair.  We sat next to eachother and became fast friends.  We often talked and he would drive me home in his van.  I remember watching in amazement as the van door folded down and he could just roll up on the ramp...then it would rise and in the driver seat he'd go.  He drove with his wrists.  I was dumbstruck because I had never met someone in his position in life being so independent and Happy.  He told me he was in a car accident if my memory is right, and that is how he became paralyzed in his legs.   He was always very respectful and kind.        In 1978 I and my husband and two other friends were in a horrible accident.  I lost Johnny, my unborn baby, and a girlfriend.  We flipped 600 feet down the highway.  When I came home...we were on vacation,  I was a mess.  I called the one friend who'd understand the most...and it was Shawn.    We became very close.  I loved his hair so much..I loved him but my heart was still with Jon and my grief drove me to drink and drugs and it was really too much for Shawn and our relationship to bear.   I remember he went to a psychic once and she said Shawn and I were lovers in Greece.  We parted because he left on a ship and was killed in battle. Or something...I can't remember...but on the day we decided to part he gave me a necklace.  It's a scrimshaw with the carving of a ship.   Tears now....I have a special velvet pouch with Johnny's earrings and I have included Shawn's beautiful necklace.   He was such a wonderful man...a great friend and I just wish I tried to find him sooner...not like how I found him now.    Your in the Lords hands now dear Shawn...God Bless You

Shawn has inspired me for most of my life, which is how long I have known him. When I first met him I was drawn by the "something special" he had that made him stand out - his authentic manner, style, smile. As our friendship grew I realized more and more of Shawn's wonderful qualities - empathy, optimism, constancy, generosity. He chose to look on the sunny side of life. He was always encouraging when I had a bad spell of health or life crises. When I went through injury and rehab, Shawn was my inspiration in getting through each day. I admired his strength and attitude so much. I also admired the close family ties he was fortunate to have, which he had a deep appreciation for. When my mother passed away a few months ago, Shawn lit a special memorial candle for her and gave me much comfort with his thoughtful expressions of caring and concern. Shawn's love and friendship has meant so much to me and I will miss him tremendously but also hold him in my thoughts and heart always.
