Bill graduated from Chaminade High School in 1963. He played drums in the high school band and in his own rock band. He also was a master of ceremonies at many high school events and was a DJ on many radio stations.
Bill attended the University of Notre Dame, where he worked for the campus radio station. He received such acclaim for his afternoon show that a local South Bend radio station hired him to work its afternoon program. In 1966, Bill joined the Navy Reserve and worked part-time at WHIO before being called to active duty. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and was released in 1968. After the Navy he began his career in radio.
Bill had his first job in Dayton, Ohio as a DJ. His extensive career in radio took him to Denver, Knoxville, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, and El Paso. He retired at age 60 and was a snowbird who spent winters in Bonita Springs.
Bill's greatest joy was spending time with the love of his life, Lyndel, and family. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and loved being a papa. His favorite pastime was to go out to nice restaurants for dinner, especially if steak was on the menu with family and friends. He also loved to entertain guests hosting dinner parties and cooking on his flambe cart. He loved trains and boats, took numerous train trips, and went on over thirty cruises.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lyndel, two children: Denise Stencel (Matt) and Matt Struck (Jennifer)' both of Denver, Colorado: two grandchildren: (Brooke and Mason Stencel); two stepchildren: Terry Barr (Becky) of Pacific, Missouri,and Jason Barr (Laura) both of Tampa, Florida; and two grand stepchildren Jack and Emily Barr of Tampa.
A celebration of life for Bill will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial, Colorado 80121. A committal service will occur Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial, Colorado 80121. A reception will occur at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary directly following the burial.
