Marion Julia Cawthra passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023, at the age of 92 with her loving daughter by her side at Commonwealth Senior Living in Haddam. She was fondly also known as Mama, Nana, Cookie, Mimi and Grammy.
Marion was born in Waterbury, CT on May 27, 1931 to the late Stanley Sunderland and Julia Sunderland (Kelly). She was adored by her older siblings, the late George Sunderland and Edna Woodruff who helped raise her after her mother passed when Marion was only 2.
Marion was the beloved wife of Ralph Mausolf. For their first date, Ralph took Marion sailing on Lake Quassapaug in Middlebury. He went home later that day and told his dad he was going to marry that girl, which he did in fact later that year. They enjoyed life spending their time camping, boating, skiing, and having fun adventures. They worked together to build his electrical business and raised their 3 children. Their love story continued for 30 years until his untimely death in 1980.
Marion went back to school and earned her associate degree in social work as she was compassionate about helping others. She later remarried Albert Cawthra on December 2, 1983 who later predeceased her. They split their time between their home in Middlebury and their condo in Naples, FL where they enjoyed golfing and spending time with their many close friends.
Marion’s greatest devotion in life was to be a great mother. She enjoyed many hobbies including writing poetry, painting, golfing, line dancing, entertaining and even modeling in Naples for local boutiques. She was known to enjoy a glass of wine with friends and always had a warm meal on the table. Later in life, her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
