It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Robert "Sparky" Sparaco of Old Lyme. He was born on Sept 30, 1957 and raised in Old Saybrook, he was 68 years old. He was a graduate of Old Saybrook High School. He is survived by his wife Laurie (Bradt) of 21 years.
Sparky worked in construction his whole life - operating heavy equipment. He loved big machines - "toys". He was a proud member of IUOE Local 478 in Hamden for over 35 years.
Outside of work, Sparky loved boating and fishing, jet skiing when he was younger, and even ice fishing in winter. He belonged to the S-X Sportsman's Association, Niantic Sportsmen's Club, and the Essex Veterans Memorial Hall.
Sparky led a quiet life, a simple life, and that's exactly how he wanted it. He enjoyed an evening boat ride on the CT River, fishing for fluke, having a beer with the guys at the club, and working at home in the vegetable garden. He especially loved sharing the garden's bounty with friends.
The location, date and time of Sparky’s Celebration of Life Service will be announced. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Essex Veterans Memorial Hall, PO Box 142 Centerbrook, CT 06409 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
