Ruth F. Hoadley

Ruth was born on March 9th 1928 to Leo and Eva (Shemansky) Dowd in East Hartford CT. After Ruth graduated from Morgan High School in 1946, she went on to study at St Raphael’s school of nursing where she graduated in 1949 as a registered nurse.

After graduating with a degree in nursing she started her first job at St Raphael’s hospital as a DR’s consultant from 1960-1965 when she went to go work at Mount St. John’s from 1969-1984.

Ruth met her husband in high school in the 1940’s. Ruth and Edson got married in 1950 when he returned from the Marines. Ruth and Edson went on to have 3 children Diane, Michael, and Mark.

Ruth was one of the original members of St. Marks church in Westbrook where she spent every Sunday for communion. Her favorite activity was to watch her grandkids athletic and school events. Her favorite sports team was the Uconn Huskies girls. She would watch every basketball game. Ruth enjoyed baking especially around Christmas, her favorite time of the year.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents Leo and Eva, her husband Edson, and her two brothers Joseph and Warren Dowd.

Ruth is survived by her three children Diane McLaughlin, Michael Hoadley, and Mark Hoadley. Her grandchildren Goetch Stone, Christopher Hoadley, Matthew Hoadley, Krystle McLaughlin, Michael Hoadley, Lauren Fay, Tyler Hoadley and Brynn Hoadley. Her great grandchildren Isabella and Benjamin Stone, Bentley and Austin Hoadley, Ruby and Amber Hapis, Connor and Shep Hoadley, and Michael and Grace Hoadley.
