October 26, 1920 – March 31, 2016
The remarkable life of Lucia Anastasio Van Eron has passed on March 31, 2016 in Vero Beach, Florida, who was born on October 26, 1920 in New York City’s Little Italy to her loving parents Louisa and Giuseppe Anastasio. Upon her Mother’s death in 1933, Lucia proudly raised her three younger brothers Alphonso, Carmine & Joseph, all of whom sadly preceded her in death.
She is survived by her adoring six children, Dorothy Overton and her husband Steve, George and his wife Valli, Joseph, Dennis and his wife Paula, Keith and Russell, her grandchildren Cherie Kilgannon and her husband Joe, Natalie, George Paul (GP) and his wife Paula, Kimberly, Danielle, Kristin O’Neil and her husband Michael, Katelyn, Lucy and Luca; and was devastated by the death of her Grandchildren Adam, James and Michele Piro in their early lives. She also is survived by her precious Great Grandchildren William and Silvana, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and Joseph's partner Jack Zimmerman (her 6th son) and his children April and John, and Michele’s husband Lenny Piro.
After her marriage in 1945 to George Van Eron, Lucia lived in Brooklyn, New York until 1959, when the family moved to Huntington, New York and tragically lost her husband in 1961. Lucia rose to the challenge with her strong faith in the Lord to raise her six children to great success as a single mother. After working for 25 years at Macy’s Huntington, Lucia retired in 1985 and moved to Fort Peirce, Florida with second husband Joseph Devine, who also preceded her in death. During her full, active and happy life in Florida, Lucia worked at the Bruno Chocolate Factory in Fort Peirce for 17 years until she was 85. During her retirement Lucia was very active in many clubs and activities, loved to travel to be with her family for every occasion all over the country, visited her ancestral Italy and never lost her zest for life. She was adored and loved by countless friends and neighbors.
Lucia’s life was an inspiration to everyone who loved and knew her, and will always stand as testament to her courage, strength and unconditional love for her entire family. In her final days, Lucia wanted all to know “I have lived a long wonderful life and done everything I needed to do. I love you Baby Doll.
