Nelson was a good man and a great friend! He did projects in my house including my kitchen and helped me shovel snow. He was also my “limo” driver for my wedding!

A prayer for Nelson,
Almighty Father, as we grieve the loss of Nelson Colon, help us remember his involvement in Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troop 356 especially his role as Scoutmaster. 
He showed by example how to live the Scout Law.   Please comfort his family and friends, for he will be dearly missed. Amen.

Every scout who passed through Nelson's leadership holds a piece of Nelson through what he had taught them.  We are grateful to Nelson through his leadership and guidance our son received his Eagle Scout Award.  It was through Scouting that we have formed a nearly 30 year friendship with Elena & Nelson.

With all the deaths from COVID, God needed more angels to help in heaven, He looked to Nelson and Nelson of course, did not hesitate.  Nelson watch over your family and be their guardian angel.  Until we meet again dear friend, rest in peace!

Nelson was probably the nicest person we knew, the kind that would warm our hearts whenever we saw him. God must have needed his help in Heaven. May he enjoy everlasting freedom and peace. Condolences to Elena and the Cruz family, whom we consider an extension of our own.

We’ve known Nelson for over 30 years.  During this time we’ve known Nelson to be a loving and caring husband and father.  He was a great friend and a wonderful man who was always there to lend a helping hand. Nelson and Elena introduced Willie and I and for that we will be eternally grateful. 

We will miss him dearly. We were blessed to have him in our lives. 

To the Familia Colon; My deepest sympathy on your loss. Although I have not seen Nelson in probably over  thirty eight years or so; I still think about old friends and neighbors growing up in the Barrio. May God grant him everlasting life in his kingdom and peace always to the family. God Bless.

Nelson was a great friend, a great mentor, and a great teacher.  I learned so much from him and I wouldn't be the electrician I am today if it wasn't for him. Besides working together and creating a great friendship we both LOVED THE YANKEES.  We went to quite a few games together and had a great time.  

So many wonderful memories with you Nelson.  To me you were one of the kindest people I knew. You always treated my kids well even if you dumped my breastmilk without realizing it, do you have any idea how long it took to pump 2 ounces😂. You always had a smile on your face when I showed up unannounced with my family.  Elena could always pick up and go to spend the day with me and you would always just fend for yourself. It may not seem like a big deal, but it was to me, not everyone is as easy as you were about the simple things.  I remember when Elena first met you, she was enamored and that was no easy task in our apt because as roommates, we always made fun of each other’s dates, so much so that nobody ever wanted to come back to see us again. 

I have no understanding as to why you would get such an awful disease, but I have to believe everything serves it’s purpose and as your beautiful daughter Jena said, you ended up meeting so many wonderful people during this whole experience and just maybe, it brought all of you closer together.  

I know you’re at peace now and your beautiful children and grandchild and grandchildren to come will always have you looking out for them from above.  You will be missed, but memories of you will last a lifetime❤️ Kim

Nelson was a great friend indeed!! We met years ago in cub scouts with our children and had a great relationship ever since . He would give the shirt off his back if needed. I am glad you are not suffering anymore and you truly will be so missed. Your Buddy Jim

Nelson and I worked together for over 10 years.  During that time we formed a strong friendship and I learned so much from him.  He was always willing to give his time to others because he truly enjoyed sharing his knowledge.  He was passionate about his beliefs and we had great times together.  Nelson was a proud family man.  He will truly be missed.   Sending strength and prayers to Elena, Jena and Jason.  

Nelson  was truly in a class all by himself. He was a great friend and a great foreman. Down through  the years working in local 3 we had  So many good times and so many laughs. I am so honored to have participated in the ALS walk with him a few years ago. You will be missed my friend. Love you bro.

I first met Nelson years ago when he dating  a friend of mine.  They were married and had two  beautiful children and had a lovely home in Centereach. I was fortunate over the years to go  summer concerts with them. I found him to be a very loving and caring husband and Dad. He fought his battle with his dreaded diagnosis with all he had. Sadly he is now in Heaven. May God Bless him and his family. ❤️🙏


To the Nelson family,

I am very sad to hear of Nelson's passing. We worked together at 
H & L Electric and I considered Nelson a good friend.
He was loved by his coworkers and customers he served.
Nelson left his mark on me and many of his coworkers and his kind memory will not be soon forgotten.
