Cleo Ellison Medders of Centreville, Alabama passed away on March 1, 2022, one day shy of his 85th birthday. He was born in Brent, Alabama on March 2, 1937, to Pascal and Vergie Medders. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth “Too Too”, his children Molly Wagner (Bill) and Bryant Medders (Pam), his siblings Joe Medders (Linda), Jan Costa Berlin, and Lynn Ellinghausen (Dale), as well as his grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Cleo was a 1955 graduate of Bibb County High School and attended The University of Alabama. After a 37-year career in the Alabama Army National Guard, he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He took pride in having made stops in Ecuador, Egypt, Panama, and Saudi Arabia during the time of his service.
Cleo will be well remembered for his love of family, friends, and The University of Alabama. In addition to spending many years coaching and umpiring little league baseball, he enjoyed golfing and fishing. His greatest joy was being “Pop” to his six grandchildren: Joshua Meadows (Emily), Nelson and John Martin Wagner, and Jenna, Annie and Ramey Medders.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Centreville Baptist Church with service starting at 2:00 PM. Pastor Ken Fuller presiding. Burial will follow at Pineland Memorial Cemetery.
