Kay was born on August 23, 1939, in West Point, MS, at Ivy Hospital, which was founded by her grandfather, Dr. F. Price Ivy. She held a Bachelor of Science from Mississippi State College for Women (the “W”), and a Masters in Computer Science from Mississippi State University. After college, she moved to Huntsville, AL, to work for IBM at the Marshall Space Flight Center. Her work for IBM on NASA’s main frame computer system earned her accolades and a leadership role that was ahead of her time. It was in Huntsville that she met and married her husband, Jim.
Kay and Jim moved to Brent, AL, his hometown, where she made the easy transition to a small Alabama town that was reminiscent of her Mississippi hometown. She became a math teacher at Cahawba Christian Academy and eventually taught math and computer science at Judson College, in Marion. Kay ended her career as the Director of the Computer Help Desk at the University of Alabama. For over 50 years, she was a member of the Brent Baptist Church, volunteering and participating in numerous ways – leading the children’s choir, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, serving on committees, and championing the Caring Center, among others.
After retirement, Kay and Jim spent many wonderful years exploring the Intercoastal Waterways and the Chesapeake Bay region on their beloved boat, the Bench Rest. She also loved spending time at her retreat in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains and with her five grandsons. Her interests and talents were many, with music and bridge providing her immeasurable joy and countless memories with friends.
She is survived by her children, James “Jay” Mordecai White, Jr. (Donna), Beauregard “Beau” Moseley White, and Claire White Foley (David); her grandsons, Samuel Moseley White, Franklin Price Foley, James Mordecai White III “Trey”, Robert Harper Foley, and Alexander Gates Foley; and her sister, Judy Moseley Rice (Tommy). Preceding her in death were her husband, James “Jim” Mordecai White, and her parents, Beauregard “Bory” Moseley, Jr., and Claire Ivy Moseley.
