Nancy “Sue” Thrasher Lowrey, age 79, of Woodstock, AL passed away on July 25, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Gertrude Thrasher; brothers, Paul and Tom Thrasher; and sisters, Nelle Battle and Kathryn Cost.
Born in Hebron, AL on January 22, 1943, she is survived by her husband of 62 years, John David Lowrey and her children: David Lowrey (Debbie) of McCalla, AL, Keri Chastain (Jeff) of Woodstock, AL and Lori Harrison (fiancé, Phillip Baldwin) of Jasper, AL. Quality time with her nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren was her greatest joy. She loved baking cakes for her family and friends and playing cards or dominoes with anyone who came to visit. She was loved by many, but the people who loved her most called her Sue Baby, Mom, MawMaw or Auntie My Sue.
A graduate of West Blocton High School, Sue enjoyed spending time with her classmates from the Class of ’61. She helped establish the Eunice Keyes and Lucile Yeager Scholarship and served as treasurer of the fund for many years. In 2003, Sue retired from the US Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier after 24 years of service. She was a faithful, long-time member of Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Friday, July 29, 2022 from 10 AM - 11 AM at Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church in West Blocton with the service starting at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Kinard Cemetery next to the church with Elder Wayne Crocker presiding.
