She is survived by her dearest friend, Blanche Watkins; sisters Kathy Hughes, Belinda Maxwell(Alan), Deborah Clements (Skipper), Terri Fikes (Bill), and Valerie Bradley (Shaun); Sister-in law
Patricia Hughes; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carley Morgan Hughes Jr.; her mother, Doris Albright Hughes; her elder brother, Phillip Morgan Hughes; and her twin brother, Dale Alexander Hughes.
A resident of Centreville since 1997, Gale became known throughout the community for her servant’s heart and deep belief that every person and every living thing deserved kindness,
dignity, and care. So she was frequently making trips around her community "checking in" on friends and community members, and even spent time transporting animals to no-harm facilities
so that they received their fair chance at life. To those who knew her, her community was not simply where she lived—it was family.
Gale’s passion for helping others was reflected throughout her professional life and volunteer service. She served as a team leader at Mercedes-Benz, District Director for Levi Wheelchair Transport Service, an Intermediate EMT for NorthStar Paramedic Services, Director of Laundry at Bibb Correctional Facility, and as a dedicated member of the Bibb Rescue Squad. Alongside her father, she was also a proud member of the Civil Air Patrol, a civilian volunteer organization devoted to serving communities, saving lives, and shaping futures.
Her greatest foundation was her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Gale worshipped at River of Life Church, where she was baptized.
Honorary Pallbearers include Dr. Alan Maxwell, Dr. Laura Lishman, Cahaba Medical Center residency staff, Bibb Medical Center (BMC) staff and BMC Nursing Home staff.
An inexpressible mention of gratitude for these people cannot go unmentioned. The care that Gale received under their supervision can only be described as a loving, tireless effort from each and every one.
Pallbearers will be Bill Fikes, Phil Fikes, Shaun Bradley, and Brett Pate. A private graveside service will be held at Hamner Family Cemetery on May 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., directed by Rockco Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Reverend Jacob Acker.
Though Gale’s passing leaves an immeasurable void, her life stands as a testimony to compassion, faith, resilience, and selfless service.
