William Morris Epperson, age 77, of Heiberger, AL slipped the surly bonds of this earth on April 7th, 2021 at 9:45pm. He loved his family, his cows, and his dogs. He had a special love for the land and found great joy in growing food, hay or just about anything. He had the best garden in the community and loved to share vegetables with family and friends, even strangers. He definitely grew the best tomatoes in the world, hands down. William was exceptionally hard working and selflessly helped others even when he himself was very sick or had his own things that needed to be done. He was beyond proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved talking about them and what they had been up to. He also loved Shirley, his wife of 35 years, whom he called “Little Sugar”, and his baby sister Linda McDaniel who was by his side to care for him and helped him to navigate his healthcare journey for the last several years.
William was quite the character and often gave nicknames to people. He filled up the room with his larger-than-life presence and often teased you if he liked you. He loved sharing his knowledge about gardening, cutting hay, fishing, and raising cows, especially with those just starting out. He knew farmers were a dying breed and wanted to pass on his wisdom to anyone who would listen. He also loved to fish for crappie, just this week he was talking about it being time to go fishing. He stopped daily at Heiberger Grocery (the community general store) where he would socialize and catch up on the news of the day. He was truly one of a kind and there will never be another like him, truly unforgettable. He survived many near-death experiences and we had so hoped that he would somehow overcome his leukemia, but God had other plans. Heaven must have needed a great farmer for the spring planting season. He loved the Heiberger community and will be watching over it in the future. William is survived by his adoring wife Shirley and his daughter Sonya Herrera (Lawrence) and her children Jordan and Jake. His son Wade Epperson (Emmy) and his children Jessica, Rob, Aliyah, and Adam. His stepson Neal’s children Rhonda, Keith and Mark, his stepson Mike’s daughter Alyssa and stepson Eddie (Theresa) and his children Edward and Christian. William also had 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Linda McDaniel (Dow). He was preceded in death by his parents Una Montz Epperson and Morris Jefferson Epperson and his sisters Ann Rinehart and Amy Stone, his brother Bobby Epperson, and stepsons Neal Bennett and Mike Bennett.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 10:30AM - 11AM with a Celebration of Life starting at 11AM.
