

Arthur M. “Art” Seghers, Sr. was 84 years old and passed away on August 13, 2021. He was the son of James M. Seghers, Sr. and Audrey Cloutier Seghers; and father of Arthur Seghers Jr. who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Anna Bienvenu; children: Lisa Thriffiley (Tim); Michelle Callahan (Brian); and James Bienvenu. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren: Ashley, Sal, Zachary, Caroline, Amy, Andrew, Jaiden, Austin, Benjamin, Tori and 1 great grandchild, Nathan.
Art graduated from grade school at St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis, MS; from De La Salle High School in New Orleans and attended University College of Tulane University. He received degrees as a Chartered Life Underwriter and as a Chartered Financial Consultant from the American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. Art joined the Naval Reserves in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1968 after obtaining the rank of Photographers Mate 2nd Class.
He worked as a cost estimator for American Creosote Works for 13 years, as a part time and full time photographer with David Nelson Photography for 13 years, and worked for New York Life Insurance Co. as an Agent and as Training Manager for 29 years. After retirement, Art began a ministry to the sick and elderly, first in Chalmette and then in Covington. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Covington, LA. Art was awarded the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 2015.
Art was a member and past president of Over the Mountain Athletic Club and enjoyed playing sports until his middle 60’s. He had a fondness for wood working tools his entire life and enjoyed making and building things out of wood. Art was an active member and enjoyed his participation with the ROMEO social club.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BENEDICT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 20370 Smith Rd., Covington, LA on Tuesday, August 17th from 10:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00AM. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Masses or donations to St. Benedict Lunch Ministry will be appreciated.
