

Bernard Benny Vitrano passed away on September 11, 2022, at the age of 91. Born in New Orleans on January 21, 1931, he was educated at St. Aloysius High School in New Orleans and entered the Navy where he served for 17 years. After his years of service in the reserves, he continued to work and retired as a Supervisor at Amax Nickel Refinery. During retirement Benny co-owned B & N Florist with his wife and worked alongside his daughter Nancy for many years. Benny was a long-time resident of Chalmette, LA. He loved going to his summer home in Mississippi and going to the casino with his friends, being outside, spending time with his grandchildren and had a strong work ethic that he instilled in every member of the family.
Benny was preceded in death by his wife, Bena Saladino Vitrano, parents Johnny Vitrano and Camille Tuminello Vitrano, brother Johnny Vitrano and his grandson, Ryan Bernard Vitrano. He is survived by his children Benny Vitrano, Johnny Vitrano (Charlene), Nancy Arnold (Art), Sharlene Colombo (Joe), and Gerard Vitrano (Nadine); his 13 grandchildren Nicole Vitrano, Chris Vitrano, Shelly Dauterive, Bryan Vitrano, Gerard Vitrano Jr., Jon Vitrano, Carly Johnson, Bradley Vitrano, Arthur Arnold, Matthew Vitrano, Alise McClung, Aubree Jarrett and Alyssa Arnold; and 16 great-grandchildren (1 on the way!)
Benny was loved by all and will surely be missed by everyone who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, September 16, 2022, at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette, from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM. A funeral mass will begin in Benny’s memory at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
