Despite this tragic loss, I am very glad that I was able to meet up with Brett/Julian recently and enjoy a night of great food and conversation. I am also glad that we always stayed in touch after high school. I have never had a more loyal friend, who also happened to be a hardcore martial artist, spiritual seeker, movie enthusiast, and all-around fantastic human being. Back in 9th grade, we had a blast performing together in our school's annual theatre production. From skateboarding to acting to martial arts, Brett was an amazingly talented and powerful individual; he has left me with many formidable memories of love and friendship. I am going to miss hanging out with him and his kind abuelita. I love you, brother! Rest in peace.

We weren't really close as you were with Erick but we shared a common interest in spirituality. I still have those books you gave me to read into so to further expand my understanding of healing & i will continue to cherish them as you cross onto a new plane of being. I hope you have found your peace. 
May your soul finally be free from mortal suffering & may we your loved ones have strength to let you go

Brett you’re the kindest and most generous person I’ve ever had the privilege to know. You’re a ray of light. You always shine bright.  You are loved by many and always will be. Know that we miss you and adore your beautiful soul. You will live forever through us. 

As physically active as my brother was, he did not like swimming or going to the beach.

When I met Brett in '07 he had one of the most free spirits of anyone I knew. There was nothing too wild that he wouldn't say or do. One time during lunch at Haynes he ate a whole habanero pepper! 
Our favorite pastime at Haynes was harassing a particular teacher, Dr. Nadeau, who really just wanted us to learn something useful... That year Brett introduced me to one of my favorite movies ever, Interview with a Vampire. 
Our paths separated and were reunited a few times. The last time I saw him was only a few months ago. He was sick and I was frustrated with his symptoms. 
I'll miss Brett, and I'll never forget that plotting, goofy smile of his. Rest in Peace my brother.

You came to see my high school play and you fell asleep with flowers in your hands 😂

You were like an older brother to me. We unfortunately lost touch over the last 2 years, but that is one of my biggest regrets. I miss watching you skate, talking about anime, playing video games, hanging out with you and my dad after you guys would finish training when you were in the bujinkan. You kicking my butt when we would spar. Those memories are so clear in my mind. I will never forget that day when you and my dad surprised me on my birthday with my first car. I had never been so happy, and it is one of my fondest memories as a teenager. I just wish you could still be here so we could make up for lost time. I love you man, I hope you're finally at peace up there. 

I miss you and I wish you were still here to tell me about the animes you’d watch and the mangas you’d read and watch the Ip Man movies and Jet Lee’s Fearless together. 

Brett,  I’ll never forget the love we shared for sushi, shrimp po boys, and all things food. We had a summer where we used to go to Danny n Clyde’s on a weekly basis and eat po boys on the curb like true New Orleans raised kids. We go back all the way to 5th grade with mr pons at ecole we began skating together then and continued for another 10 years. I could write all day with all the great memories we shared. I love you man rest easy

My favorite human being on this earth.  I am so proud to know you and even more thankful we spent this year talking to each other every day. Thank you for always making me blush and making me feel special all these years. I will save every love letter you've sent to me and hilarious story you've shared with me forever.  Meeting the friends that love you has been really beautiful. You never stopped believing in me and I never stopped believing in you either. Never. I have nothing but legendary memories of you. Thank you for trusting me with your heart.. I'll see you again someday. I love you.
