Charles J. “Buddy” Mouton Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jeanne Gervais Mouton; his parents Charles and Mary Mouton, his grandparents Charles & Lucille Mouton and Louis & Minnie Carollo. Loving father of Chad “Rocky” Mouton (Julie), Dustin Mouton, Kyle Asevedo (Melissa) and Cathy Fontenot. Brother of Michael Mouton. Proud grandfather of Corianne Nolen (John), Beaux Mouton, Brody Mouton, Eloise Mouton, Grace Asevedo, Alex Asevedo, Caroline Fontenot, Matthew Fontenot and Jude Fontenot. Great grandfather of John Hereford Nolen and Chad Wayne Mouton.
Buddy was born in New Orleans, LA and eventually made his home in Zachary, where he built a life rooted in hard work, faith, sports and family. He enjoyed a long and dedicated career as a grocery sales representative and his faith was a steady presence in his life as a devoted parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary. Yet, if there was one passion that truly defined Buddy, it was baseball.
In 2017, his lifelong love of playing, coaching and managing ball was honored when he was inducted into the Louisiana USSSA Hall of Fame. That love began early and carried him to LSU New Orleans, where he made history by hitting the first home run in Privateer baseball history. After his baseball career, Buddy transitioned to softball, playing for numerous teams and spending nearly every day of the week at the ballpark. If his regular team wasn’t playing, he could almost always be found joining a pickup game with local players, any chance to be on the field was one he gladly took.
Above all else, Buddy’s greatest joy was his family. His pride in them was unmistakable. To his family, Buddy was more than any title could capture. He was a deeply loving son, a supportive brother, a devoted father who guided with care, a grandpa who gave his whole heart, and a man whose presence made life a little better. He was well loved and will be deeply missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Wayne Gravois, his friend and longtime caregiver, the loving staff of Zachary Manor and the Baton Rouge Our Lady of the Lake Critical Care Unit team for their care and compassionate professionalism.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a funeral service in Buddy’s memory beginning at 11:00AM. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
