Dennis was a man who deeply enjoyed being outdoors and working with his hands. He had a natural ability to fix just about anything, and if he didn’t know how at first, it wouldn’t be long before he figured it out. Dennis was always busy, always looking to get something done.
He loved the simple things like: spending time outside, drinking a cold Bud Light, and cheering on LSU. Dennis was also a great cook, and his food was something everyone looked forward to. Meals he made were shared, enjoyed, and remembered by all who gathered around his table. Over the years, he found enjoyment in many interests, from bass fishing to tinkering with technology and sound or video equipment, always curious, always hands-on. Wherever Dennis was, there was energy. He was the life of the party, someone people naturally gravitated toward, and someone who was genuinely loved by everyone who knew him.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Lola and Charles DeBate. He is survived by his son, Dennis DeBate (Neely), who was his pride and joy. He also leaves behind his longtime partner, Gracie Oster, and those dear to him through her—Atrisha, Tristan, Adrian, and Alexah—whom he held close as family. He is further survived by his three brothers, Darrell DeBate, Gary DeBate (Liz), and Joseph Martinez (Melanie).
Dennis will be remembered for his warmth, his work ethic, his ability to bring people together, and the lasting impression he left on the lives he touched.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA, on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will begin at 1:00 p.m.
