Emile “Pineapple” Leo Lara, 85, of Chalmette, passed away on March 12, 2023. Emile is survived by his son Simon Lara, grandson Jordan Lara, daughter-in-law Natalie Lara, sisters Diane Melara and Katherine Liebert, his favorite nephew Marion “Nono” Daguimol, and his loving companion in his later years, Betty Guerra. Emile was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Rita Lara and his siblings, Lewis Joseph Lara, Carmelite Johnston, and Beatrice “Canoe” Almario.
Emile was born in New Orleans to Felix and Lillian Melay Lara on February 27, 1938. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1956. He married Rita Brown. He was a proud member of the US Post Office for 30 years as a mail carrier and clerk. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and had even owned a few field champion hounds. He was also a huge Saints and LSU fan and he played softball for the Bywater Eagles over 15 years.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE STREET, in Chalmette, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
