Jeanette Mathews Hearty

Jeanette “Mama Nette” Hearty was born on January 1, 1928 to Gladys Cobb Mathews and Luther Mathews and passed away peacefully in her home on February 16, 2024 at the age of 96. She was a talented educator, who will be fondly remembered by the students of Andrew Jackson High School and Beauregard High School, and an impressive cook whose Sunday meals were anticipated by family members, neighbors, and friends. Additionally, Jeanette was a member of Grace Baptist Church of New Orleans where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Intelligent, classy, and shy, Jeanette cared about others until the very end. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Patrick J. Hearty III and her siblings James Mathews (wife: Vickie), Dorothy Mathews, and Sylvia Duplessis (husband: Daniel). Jeanette is survived by her children James Hearty (wife: Cathy), Susan Hearty, and Jeanne Hearty; her grandchildren Patrick Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Kelly Hearty, Gabrielle Cashio, and Kaitlyn Hearty; and her great-grandchildren Carter Johnson and Giada Istre.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 9:00 AM- 11:00 AM. A service will begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Midway Cemetery, MS-184, Meadville, MS 39653.
