Margaret Robert Favre passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the age of 93. She was born in Luling, Louisiana on March 2, 1929, to the late Dewey Joseph and Martha Ford Robert. Sadly, at the age of eleven she was orphaned and graciously taken in by her aunt and uncle, the late Ernest and Rose Nunez. Her sister Rita and her brother Dewey now had cousins that became their family. She remained close to all of them long after her graduation from Maumus High School in Arabi, through her married life and in her later years enjoyed many outings with her sisters. Margaret married the love of her life, the late Otis W. Favre, Sr. in 1955 and raised their family in Arabi, moving to Slidell after Katrina. For over 50 years they operated Otis Income Tax together, and their clients became like family.
Remembered as a loving, bright and witty “Granny”, Margaret was endlessly generous and kind, always there to help those in need. Throughout her life she was known as a gracious hostess, putting on family celebrations well into her nineties, always serving her famous gumbo. She adored being surrounded by family and friends and always had her freezer stocked with homemade casseroles ready to pull out for anyone who stopped by. A very hardworking and resilient woman, Margaret also knew when to take time to enjoy life with her family and friends, watching dance revues and sporting events of her children, grandchildren and later in life her great grandchildren. A devout Catholic all her life, Margaret showed her love for Christ in her compassion and care for others.
Margaret was the matriarch and driving force of the Favre family. She is survived by her three children, Otis Favre Jr. (Lonnie), Stacy Favre Pellerin (Jim), and Ford Robert Favre (Coleen), and siblings Nancy Prattini, Sandy Taffaro, and Merle Laviolette. She is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren: Chad (Laurel), Clint (Brittany), Cody (Mollee), Chase (Lindsay); Jamie Pellerin, Caroline Pellerin, Katie Pellerin Furtado (Stephen), Corrie Pellerin Stakenborghs (Robert), Casey Pellerin Westguard (Mark), and Brock Pellerin (Lindsey); Emily Favre Robichaux (Andrew), Elizabeth Favre, and Ford Favre. She had sixteen great-grandchildren: Liam, Sarah, Tucker, Camille, Colette, Marlee, Monnie, and Jack Favre; Cecilia Robichaux; Spencer and Olivia Pellerin; Harry and Oliver Westguard; James Stakenborghs; and Emmeline and Connor Furtado. Also survived by her sisters in law, Elaine Favre and Patsy Robert.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Otis W. Favre Sr. and her siblings: Dewey Robert Jr., Rita Blanchard, Kay Nunez, Ernest Nunez Jr., Barbara Greco, and Loretta Lalumia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 2729 Lowerline St. in New Orleans on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 1:30pm with visitation from 12:00 – 1:30pm.
