

Michael Edwin Gunn peacefully passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31st, 2024, at the age of 74. Born in New Orleans, LA, Michael was a longtime resident of Arabi, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin Joseph Gunn, Jr. and Mary Louise Perez Gunn, as well as his grandparents Edwin Joseph Gunn, Sr., Veronica Edna Junker Gunn, Rudolph C. Perez, and Eva Avila Perez. Michael was also preceded by his brother Ralph Joseph Gunn, Sr., and his nephew Andrew Joseph Gunn.
Michael is survived by his niece Shannon Gunn Helffrich (John), nephews Michael Abbott Johnson, Jr., and R.J. Gunn, Jr. and great nephew Evan Andrew Helffrich. He is also survived by his siblings Veronica Gunn Johnson (Michael), Daniel Morris Gunn, and sister-in-law Diann Abadie Gunn. Michael will also be fondly remembered by many cousins, relatives, and dear friends.
A proud veteran, Michael served his country as a Specialist in the U.S. Army in the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment of Vietnam and Cambodia Blackhorse. He was a dedicated member of various organizations, including the VFW (Post 133), DAV in St. Bernard Parish, Vietnam Vets of America (Chapter 550), and was a charter member of the Arabi Social Society (A.S.S.). Michael enjoyed a fulfilling career as an electrician with IBEW Local 130.
Known for his good nature and generous heart, Michael was adored by all who knew him. He had a special affection for his furbaby, Ace, the grey cat. Michael's love for music and festivals, monthly excursions to Sam's Club, and joy-riding on his scooter were just a few of the ways he embraced life's simple pleasures.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 10:00AM – 12:00PM. A Memorial Service will begin at 12:00PM. He will be laid to rest with military honors in Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA.
