I am so very sorry to read of Mike passing. We will forever remember those wonderful seafood boils at his house that he worked so hard on after Katrina. Everywhere he went will be a little dimmer now, a lovely soul has left

Well Mike, the ultimate anniversary of your passing is approaching.  Can't believe how fast time passes.  On  Friday, 1/31/25, I'll take that Day to remember, cherish, and treasure the memories WE spent and shared together in Old Arabi.  And, the good times WE had together, will never be forgotten!  I just wanted to wish the Gunn Family, Peace and Comfort at this very difficult time.

Michael, just realized I didn't get a card from you this Xmas.  Am planning a trip to NOLA next month and called you.   I have known you for 20 years, and you were the greatest friend.  Missing you.

I want to send my condolences to the entire family and friends of Mikes for the loss we all will experience from his passing.  It's  hard to put into a few words a lifetime of friendship and experiences.  It has been said you can count your true friends on one hand and i do agree with that sentiment, I also know the road of life we all walk down has just become a little more lonely as one of those true friends has gone to his final reward. Shannon, Michael,  R.J and the Gunn family .. . and to the very many friends of Mike:   please accept the condolences of the Veterans of the 11th Armored Cavalry who served in Vietnam and Cambodia.  Mike was one of us, one of our own.  He is especially mourned by his battery mates of the 3rd Squadron.   He served as an honorable trooper and has been a faithful friend to so many of his Blackhorse brothers since his service in 1970 and 1971.   Many of us will recall the joy  (and the unique accent) he brought with him to our reunions and gatherings.  His name will be published in our newsletter, Thunder Run, posted on our web page and solemnly saluted at the Memorial Service at our annual reunion.  As grateful Americans we all pause and salute a really good man, "good natured and generous," who was willing to sacrifice and even put his life on the line for his country and his fellow man.  As the burial liturgy antiphons clearly ring clear:  " ... his life has not ended. merely changed" and as we were together then in Vietnam, we will be together again in the life hereafter -- warmly embraced in the arms of our Merciful Father. I will heartfelt miss my friend Michael. I would like to say Michael was my friend n battle Buddy. We meet in Vietnam and will always remember the Guy that brought our Amo and had a joke or story to tell. More than that Michael had a heart of gold. He loved his fellow man and He loved it. Allons my Cavary Buddy.

So sorry for your loss!  Mike was a fun and caring individual who would give you the shirt off his back.  He was loved by everyone who knew him.  We enjoyed many good times with Mike ,his family and friends.  Mike we loved you and will be missed!  Mike you are no longer suffering and will be playing his music in heaven.  Love you Mike! So sorry to hear of the passing of my good old neighborhood friend, Mike Gunn.  I would like to extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to Mike's Family at this very difficult time.  We had a great time growing up in Arabi.  Growing up, we use to gather at his house, where Music was heard and recorded, routinely, to start the day.  Then, socializing at the local bars, was usually on the agenda during the afternoons and evenings.  Unfortunately, Katrina forced many, sadly, to relocate outside of St, Bernard, to various locals, within and also outside the State of Louisiana.  Thus, contact with Mike was lost for awhile, that is, until he re-settled in on Mehle Street in Old Arabi, where contact was reestablished, once again.  Well, great memories will always remain of my friendship with Mike.  May HE Rest in Eternal Peace! GOD Bless You, Mike!
