Michael "Mickey" LaBourdette Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 72. He was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish and a man deeply rooted in his family, his work, and his community. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Rizzuto LaBourdette; his children, Jeanne' Whelchel (Scott) and Michael LaBourdette Jr. (Courtney); his grandchildren, Victoria Whelchel, Aubrey LaBourdette, Mason Whelchel, Shelby LaBourdette and Logan LaBourdette; his siblings, Judy Helmers (Paul), Honore' LaBourdette (Butch Tidwell), Denise Spera (Anthony) and Lloyd LaBourdette (Patty). Mickey is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Lloyd LaBourdette.
Mickey proudly retired from the St. Bernard Fire Department, where he served with dedication and courage. Known for his strong work ethic, he later turned his passion for the outdoors into a successful career as a licensed horticulturist and landscaper. Mickey and his wife, Vicki, were the owners and operators of LaBourdette’s Nursery in Violet, Louisiana, a business they built with pride and hands-on care. Above all else, Mickey loved his family. He cherished every moment spent with them, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as “Big Chief.” He was their biggest fan, their protector, and their source of laughter and wisdom. Mickey was truly the life of the party. His presence filled any gathering with joy, stories, and laughter. He loved being outdoors, working in his yard, fishing, and spending time at family get-togethers. Whether tending to plants or celebrating with loved ones, Mickey found happiness in simple pleasures and shared them generously with others. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and unforgettable memories. Mickey will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his spirit will live on through the family he adored and the lives he touched.
