He was the beloved husband and childhood sweetheart of 62 years to Jacqueline Blanchard McConnell. Loving father of Timothy McConnell (Becky), Todd McConnell Sr. (Jerilyn), Troy McConnell (Gina) and the late Thomas McConnell IV. Son of the late Sybil Kennedy and Forest Kennedy. Proud grandfather of Thomas J. McConnell (Paola), Mindy McConnell, Todd McConnell Jr. (Julie), Patrick McConnell and Matthew McConnell. Great grandfather of Grayson Manning, Henry McConnell, Mia McConnell and Eliza McConnell. Brother of Forest Kennedy (Delise); Gerry Rhodes (the late Earl) and the late Edrie Lefont (Kilben). He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Thomas was born in New Orleans, LA, and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish before settling in Pearl River, LA following hurricane Katrina. He proudly served his country as a Signalman in the U.S. Navy for 4 years in the Pacific Fleet. He enjoyed 14 years successfully running the St. Bernard Bus Line Café and Tommy’s Lounge. He continued to serve his community as a detective with the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office for 11 years. Thomas remained active throughout his life, remaining an active member of Cross Gates Athletes Club for over 30 years, and devoting much of his time to his friends and family. He enjoyed boating, motorcycles, bicycles, travelling throughout the U.S. and Canada, boxing, football, many cruises, and sometimes just enjoying a walk around the neighborhood. His love for family gatherings was surpassed only by the love for his grandchildren. He found pleasure in the details of everyday life and caring deeply for others. He will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family, his laughter and spoiling the grandchildren. He was our pillar of courage and strength, and a wonderful example of what it means to care for others. He will be deeply missed by us all.
