

Vincent Salvatore Guttuso, III, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2024 after a very brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was 64 years old. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 22, 1960, Vincent was the first of five children born to Vincent S. Guttuso, Jr., and Lily Rose Chutz. Vincent was a resident of Chalmette and will be remembered for his kind heart, contagious sense of humor and his dedication to his family and friends. His passion was the outdoors. Vincent was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed tending his vegetable garden and cooking.
Vincent was preceded in death by his mother, Lily Rose Chutz and his brother, David Michael Guttuso. He is survived by his children, Jennifer R. Guttuso and Brandon M. Guttuso; four grandchildren Beaux, Emersyn and Colt Guillot and Athena Guttuso; his father, Vincent S. Guttuso, Jr.; brothers Michael G. Guttuso (Rhonda) and Darren J. Guttuso and his sister Anne M. Martin (Richard).
Vincent grew up in Arabi, Louisiana and attended St. Robert Bellarmine Elementary School and Holy Cross High School in New Orleans (Class of 1978). Right after high school, Vincent enlisted in the Louisiana Air National Guard and served in the 159th Fighter Wing in Belle Chasse. He was assigned to the munitions section of the unit lovingly known as the “Bomb Dump”. He served from 1978 and was honorably discharged in 1984. While serving in the National Guard, Vincent earned a bachelor’s of science degree in respiratory therapy in 1985 from the LSU School of Allied Health Professions in New Orleans. He worked as a respiratory therapist for 38 years at various local hospitals including Charity Hospital (New Orleans), Baptist Memorial Hospital (New Orleans), Chalmette General Hospital (Chalmette), Northshore Hospital (Slidell), Crosby Memorial Hospital (Picayune, MS) and within the Ochsner Health System. While at Ochsner, he facilitated the Ochsner Smoking Cessation Program for 9 ½ years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Eternal rest grant unto Vincent, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, 3421 Esplande Ave., New Orleans, LA 70119.
