Carl was my traffic partner for many years.  I could always depend on him and he would always be there if I needed something. best ttime working.  I was shocked to about his passing.  He was a good friend.  I am very sorry and I'll miss him

Carl was my partner for 10 years and such a fun guy to work with.
We both shared a passion for Old Classic cars and spent hours
talking and joking through our shift.  He was a great father and loved to

My greatest memories of Carl Helm were of him sitting around the pool with a puppy on his lap. He was kind, gentle, and his presence created a sense of calm for me. I always enjoyed seeing his Facebook posts of cute dogs. I know he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. RIP.

I will always remember "Uncle" Carl as a sweet, caring, positive person, someone who made other people feel calm and at ease. Sending much love and healing to my family as you go through this difficult time.

I wish to celebrate the life of Carl Helm. We were all blessed to know this gently giant of a man. Carl could bring calm to any situation with a big smile. His family was well protected under the strong arms of Carl. I'am sure he continues to watch over them from above as well. As a City of Los Angeles Police officer the city was well protected, by a true professional. Carl was always good for a exciting story, or simply listing ear. I've only known Carl for a short time. Almost 4 years ago I met him on Christmas Day at my soon to be in laws Christmas dinner. I remember Carl being so warm and welcoming to me even though we just met! I was lucky enough to sit next to him for dinner and we had a great conversation. After dinner he taught me how to play a game. A game the family already knew but one I haven't played before....I didn't win but we tried! :) 
The Helm family has always made me feel like I've been in the family forever. I am truly blessed to have them all in my life and I'm even more lucky to have known Carl for the short time that I did.

When I came to California and met Carl I new I had a second Family. Carl was such a good Dad. Always calm, fullof ideas and storries. He always had time for an encouraging word. In the last year I just loved to follow his picturetour on facebook. I never quitt thinking about this time in my life. I will always have Carl in my hart. I now the loss is tremendous for you all. But remeber he left a piece of himself in every one of us. 
I am sorry I will not be able to attand in church.

The day I graduated from the Los Angeles Police Academy, Charlotte and Carl were there.  Their gift to me was my leather ticket book, which I carry to this day.  My initials and serial number are embossed on the cover, and inside is embossed with Carl's serial number, as follows - "From 17303 and Family".  When working patrol and getting assigned a traffic investigation radio call, it was so nice to have my own personal traffic investigator to call upon.  He helped me out too many times to count.  His expertise was unmatched - a true professional.  You will be missed, but always carried in our hearts.  Love, 25802

As a now retired LAPD officer, I worked with Carl for several years at Valley Traffic Division.  He was a great partner, but a better friend.  We had a lot of good times and a lot of laughs over the years, and I will remember him as long as I live.  Rest in peace partner.  Thanks for the memories.  I pray that his family and loved ones will receive peace, understanding and comfort in their time of loss.

I will miss my Uncle Carl. I remember him as an L.A.P.D. Officer who protected and served the people of Los Angeles.

Charlotte, we are so saddened by Carl's sudden passing. May your faith keep you strong during this difficult time.  May you find joy knowing Carl knew his Lord and Savior.  May you find joy knowing  he is in heaven rejoicing with his beloved daughter, Carol.  May you find joy knowing you can pray boldly and confidently God will get you through this. May you find joy remembering all the wonderful memories the two of you created.
