

As night fell at 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, the 22nd of February 2026, just two days before his 68th birthday, Carlos Joaquin Morazan passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Carlos was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Ramona, they were committed to each other for 33 years. He was also a cherished father to Melisssa Marie (21) and Carlos Joaquin Jr. (18). Carlos was the bedrock of his family.
Carlos Joaquin was born on February 24, 1958, in San Salvador, El Salvador to Joaquin Morazan Bonilla and Concha Marina Herrera de Morazan, The eldest of three children, Carlos grew up with his surviving twin sisters, Ana Teresa Morazan de Kajaba (spouse: Markus, children: Nina and Daniel) and Ana Gloria Morazan de Valladares (spouse: Alfredo, children: Adriana and Rodrigo). He attended the German high school, Deutsche Schule in San Salvador, graduating in 1977.
After his high school graduation, Carlos journeyed to the United States to attend Arizona State University and DeVry Institute of Technology. He studied Electrical Engineering and earned both an Associate of Applied Science and Bachelor of Science degree. Later in years, he also obtained a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix.
Carlos began his engineering career at Cerprobe. In August of 1988, he moved to VLSI Technology. While working at VLSI, he met the love of his life, Ramona Ortiz Morazan in 1993. They married in Maui, Hawaii on September 27, 1999. The Morazan’s lived in Ahwatukee before settling in Chandler, Arizona in 2007. It is here that they raised their two children, Melissa and Joaquin.
Carlos was a consummate professional. Spending the bulk of his career dedicated to VLSI, which changed hands several times and is now known as NXP. His work ethic was stellar, and he was admired by all who worked with him. At the end of his days, Carlos was still working and clocked in close to 38 years of service to NXP.
Carlos enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He could mix a drink like no other. He was active, loving to coach and play soccer, he also enjoyed golf and snow skiing. His artistic side came out when he played the guitar and ukulele and he loved to dance.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 10:00 a.m. at St. Steven’s Catholic Church, 24827 S. Dobson Rd. Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. Interment will take place immediately following the mass at Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248. Please join the family for a celebration of life luncheon directly after the interment at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary.
