Carol was raised on a farm by her mom and dad, Josie and Paul, with her sister, Shirley and twin brother Kenneth. After losing her Daddy at age six, the young family moved to Boise so her mom could work. Carol learned to sew, do chores, and babysit.
The marriage of Carol and Don Bailey took place in Boise in 1948 after they had been introduced by Don’s sister a year earlier. The couple moved to McCall, Idaho where they owned a radio repair shop. Christine was born there in 1950.
The military took the family to Alaska in 1951. Marilyn and Brad were born soon after. Carol was a loving mother and wife who placed that importance second only to her relationship with God. She sewed clothes, babysat, sold Tupperware, led Girl Scouts, gardened, and was active in the PTA. She and Don loved their dance lessons, bridge playing, and family trips to Big Lake.
The family moved to Soldotna in 1963 where they owned a Union Oil distributorship. Carol became active with Alaska Crippled Children and Adults, officiating state elections, Petroleum Wives, and Toastmistress. She enjoyed snowmachining and RV’ing. In 1967 Carol’s adventurous spirit led her to pile the kids in the family car and drive from Soldotna to Boise for a vacation. She loved her greenhouse, gardening, knitting, and crocheting.
Upon becoming an empty-nester, Carol went to college and real estate school. She became a realtor and later bought two flower shops in Anchorage to operate with Christine. In 1980 Carol and Don moved back to Soldotna and bought two dry cleaner stores with Marilyn and Tim. Carol became a Soldotna City Councilwoman and was instrumental in creating Soldotna Creek Park.
In 1998 Carol and Don moved to Meridian, Idaho so Carol could help her mother. Later they moved to Arizona to be near children and grandchildren. She is remembered for her quick wit, humor, amazing memory, and generosity.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 68 years, Don Bailey.
