It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary John Boeker, who left us on January 31, 2026, at the age of 84. Gary, a beloved husband, father, grandpa, and friend, was born and raised in Glendale, California, before making Arizona his home.
Born to Lawrence and Evelyn Boeker, Gary grew up in a tight-knit family alongside his brothers, Jim Boeker, Steve Heil, and Les Heil and their families. His father served as a dedicated police officer in Glendale, California and his mother was a nurturing homemaker whose love and care instilled strong values in their children.
A gifted athlete, Gary had a promising future ahead of him in football, earning a scholarship to USC. However, displaying his unwavering patriotism, he made the honorable decision to serve in the United States Navy, a choice that reflected his commitment to his country. Following his service, Gary embarked on a fulfilling career in construction that also had working in Hawaii before finding his true calling with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), where he ultimately retired after 39 plus years. His relentless work ethic and dedication to providing for his family were hallmarks of his character.
Gary was blessed to share 62 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, his wife, Louise Catherine Boeker. Together, they created a warm and supportive family environment. Gary is survived by his cherished wife, Louise; their daughter, Shawn Boeker-Romero; son, Darin Boeker; daughter-in-law, Cyndi Boeker; and his adored grandchildren, Arianna Romero, Marissa Romero, and Ryan Boeker. His family meant everything to him, and he poured his heart into nurturing those precious bonds.
At his core, Gary was a true cowboy—he found joy in country music, the great outdoors, and the company of animals, particularly dogs. He delighted in dove hunting and skeet shooting, earning respect and recognition in several competitions. A passionate football fan, he shared memorable moments with his son, often placing playful wagers on game outcomes—a tradition that fostered laughter and cherished memories.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Gary will remember him for his strength, confidence, and his vibrant sense of humor. He touched the lives of many with his warm spirit and genuine kindness, and he will be profoundly missed.
A funeral service to honor Gary’s life will be held on Thursday, February 12th, at 12:30 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, with burial to follow. This service will remain private for family members.
The family warmly welcomes flowers and invites condolences, photos, stories and memories of Gary to be shared as they navigate this difficult time. Your thoughts, prayers and support are deeply appreciated.
