Gay was a vibrant and healthy 74 year young woman; born and raised in Southern California and was the only daughter of Dale and Marie Hall. She adored her parents and was a devoted daughter to them. Gay was a wife to her husband Dave for nearly 55 years and as a stay at home mother, she raised 3 children; Mark who now lives in Thailand, Susie who lives in Flagstaff, Arizona and Cindy who lives in Bend, Oregon. Gay's greatest source of pride was being a grandmother to Susie's kids Alisha and Josh and to Cindy's children Colton, Moira, Shayna and Keelia.
Gay was a devoted Christian and she enjoyed going to church and Sunday school. She participated with
bible study groups both at Pinetop and Sun Lakes. She loved everyone and was always talking to someone. She had the gift of gab...Years ago one of her relatives said that Gay needed to be buried with her mouth open or no one would recognize her.
Daughter Susie and her children Josh and Alisha, lived with Gay and Dave for a few years while Susie was in college. During this time Gay imparted her special kind of love to them. After they grew to be adults, they both phoned her often (Alisha and Gay spoke every day). They would talk to her about their problems and their successes but mostly to feel closer to her.
When Dave and Susie were notifying Gay’s friends of her passing, they were amazed at the number of people who said that Gay was their “best” friend. Is there any higher tribute than considering a person your best friend? Gay had the special gift of cultivating friendships that last a lifetime. She worked hard to keep her friendships going no matter the distance.
Gay also loved to travel. She went to Alaska to see humpback whales and brown bears; to Canada to see polar bears and to the Antarctic to see penguins. This winter she was planning to go to Australia to see kangaroos. But of all the places she has been she loved Pinetop and her cabin there the best. Her husband Dave thinks that with the mountains, trees, birds, elk and deer she felt closer to her God there than any place else.
Gay was an animal lover with two dogs. One was a Mother's Day gift from Susie and the other dog she took in after her father had a stroke. She loved her two dogs and took better care of them than most people care for
their children. They sense her absence and miss her very much.
Gay strongly believed in helping others and was extremely generous. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting and each year she made small blankets for wheelchair bound elders that were distributed by various organizations. She loved to make baby blankets and never missed an opportunity to make one even if it was someone she didn't know well. She volunteered her time to the Crisis Pregnancy Center, supported The Love Kitchen in Pinetop and provided financial help, anonymously, to needy families throughout her church.
Gay's passing will leave a void for everyone that knew her. She touched a lot of lives and will be greatly missed.
