Irene Trefz Bever passed away peacefully on December 12, 2019 after a brief illness at her facility residence in Palo Alto CA. She was born in Holly Colorado on September 28th, 1922, the youngest of 5 children. After her mother’s death when she was 13, her father felt it was necessary for her to move in with a distant relative. After she protested, her father relented, and her three older sisters then shared the responsibility of bringing her into adulthood. Even though the sisters married and moved away, they would stay close for the rest of their lives. After many years, 2 of the sisters decided to rejoin my mother in their retirement years by moving to Sun Lakes.
After secretarial school, she met her husband, Winston Bever on a blind date and they were married on Sept. 12th, 1944. They settled in the Los Angeles area where they raised their 3 daughters and where she worked as a principal’s assistant at a local school. In 1966 the family moved to Phoenix Arizona where they opened up Camelback Honda. She worked as the bookkeeper there until they retired and moved to Sun Lakes in the mid 1980’s. They enjoyed their time in Sun Lakes, participating in The Recycles Motorcycle group, playing golf and tennis and taking trips in their motorhome. After her husband passed away in 2000, she continued to stay in the Sun Lakes area, before coming to California in 2008. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, and was loved by many. She was always there for her family, ready to forgive, and support them in whatever path they chose to follow. She will be missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Win Bever, and her two oldest daughters, Christine Scroggins and Carol Bever. She is survived by her youngest daughter, Connie Strayer, her grandson, Jesse Henke, and her great grandson, Robert Henke. Services will be held at the Valley of the Sun Funeral Home in Chandler Arizona on January 11, 2020 at 1:00 P.M.
