

Janet Caroline Vineyard, 87, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on January 24, 2025. She was born in Evanston, Illinois on May 24, 1937. Jan, as she preferred to be called, grew up in Ravinia, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Highland Park High School. She attended Beloit College in Wisconsin and graduated with a teaching degree from Carroll College. While attending Beloit College she met and married her first husband, Donald Smith. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they raised three children.
Jan was an active member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Phoenix, singing in the choir and doing mission work. Later when she moved to Sunland Village East in Mesa, she joined Red Mountain United Methodist Church where she continued her service. She was known for her friendliness and outgoing nature.
She worked in various fields including drug rehabilitation counselor, social services and tutor. She dedicated time throughout her life for volunteer work where she had a positive impact on the lives of countless people, including leading an Alzheimer's Support Group for more than ten years.
Throughout her life Jan enjoyed outdoor activities like swimming, camping and hiking. She met her second husband Bill Vineyard while hiking in Oak Creek Canyon. They had a marvelous married life together for 25 years. They traveled all over the world. Jan was always a loving grandmother in the life of her grandchildren and took care of her husband.
She moved to Mesa and eventually went to Canyon Winds Senior Living. The last seven years of her life were enriched by her companion Don Courtright.
Jan was survived by three children, Cynthia Dumbauld, Garrett Smith, Peter Smith, son-in-law, Joe Dumbauld, daughter-in-law, Nara Smith, fourteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren,Sister, Peggy Buchannan - of Colorado
