John Anthony Russo, 70, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away on July 22, 2014. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. John was a 36 year veteran of the New York City Police Department, retiring at the rank of Detective First Grade. He moved to Arizona in 2006, where he enjoyed his retirement playing golf and being with his friends and family. John is preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Gloria. He is survived by his wife, Sonia, son, John and daughter, Elaine Ryan, and five beautiful grandchildren: Alexandra, Matthew, Christopher, Michael, and Jack, as well as his brother, Vincent. Family and friends are invited to pay their last respects on Friday, July 25th from 10 am to 2 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 2pm, both at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 East Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, AZ.
